My Top 8 FAQs about Newborn Sessions

One of the very best parts of my job is that I get to talk with a lot of new and expecting moms. So today I thought I’d share the top 8 questions I am most often asked about newborn photos. Hopefully, I’ll answer one of yours! (If you have a friend who’s expecting, this would be a great one to forward to her!)

1-When should I schedule newborn photos?

Get on my calendar as soon as possible!

You’ve got so much on your mind while you’re prepping for your baby and the last thing you want is to let photos slip through the cracks. I’ve talked to so many moms who tell me they wished they had gotten newborn photos taken, but they never scheduled them and then they blinked and their baby wasn’t a newborn anymore!

Most importantly, do not wait until after the baby arrives. Take it from a mom of 3, you’re going to be so busy with your baby (and exhausted) during those first few weeks, that scheduling photos is likely never going to happen.  If you do get around to it, you may have difficulty finding a photographer who has availability with short notice.

2-How do I book a date if I don’t know when the baby will arrive?

When you book a newborn session with me, you pay a $75 retainer that holds your due date on my calendar. Once your baby arrives, you just contact me and we’ll work out a specific date and time for your session within those first few weeks.

3-What happens if the baby comes early, needs to stay in the hospital longer, or there are other surprises?

I know that babies come on their own time and not always in the way we expect! If this happens with your birth, just reach out when you can and let me know what’s going on. We can arrange for an earlier or later session if needed. I’ll always work with you to try and figure something out.

4-How soon after birth do you take the photos?

I typically suggest taking newborn photos in those first 2-3 weeks after your baby is born.  You’ll find that your baby grows and changes really fast and it’s easier to catch them when they’re still tiny and sleepy.

5-Where are the photos taken?

You have 2 options: I can come to your home for photos or you can come to my studio in Forest Acres.  Either way, we’ll keep it relaxed. I take a lifestyle approach to newborn photos, meaning I aim to create images that show your family’s connection while keeping it relaxed and natural. We won’t be placing your baby in any intricate poses. Instead, there will be lots of snuggled-up, cozy pictures.

If we are at your home, you can include the whole family in your newborn sessions! Siblings and even pets are welcome. Due to the limited space, the studio location works best for families of 2-3.

6-What do I need to do to prepare?

Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! I’ve put together a full guide to help you prep for your newborn session. It’s full of helpful info like what to expect when I arrive, what you can do to help get your baby in a good mood for photos, what spaces we might use in your home, and outfit ideas for both you and your baby. I’ll send it to you before your scheduled session!

I try to keep it at simple as possible and offer practical tips because I know that those first few weeks home with your little one can be a lot. I don’t want to add any more stress. In fact, my goal is to make your newborn session as easy and enjoyable as possible for you.

7-How soon will I get my photos?

You’ll receive your completed gallery link within 2 weeks of your session. You can quickly log in, download, and share your gorgeous photos of your even more gorgeous baby!

8-How do I actually book my session?

Easy! Just head to my website (or click this link ) to request your newborn info packet. Read through it to get all the details and pricing info. If you’re ready to move forward with booking, just complete the bottom portion of the form and I’ll send over your booking link! Everything’s paid for and scheduled online. Check it off your list!
